Building Resilience and Compassion Satisfaction

We are all prone to burnout, the sense of exhaustion, cynicism, and ineffectiveness that can lead to dissatisfaction in any area of life. Secondary Traumatic Stress (STS) is a more specific response occurring when individuals are in close proximity to people who have experienced trauma. Recognizing and understanding burnout and STS is the first step to addressing it. Utilizing principles from Polyvagal Theory, participants will learn about the physical response to stress, how to manage boundaries and trauma exposure, and how to find meaning to build compassion satisfaction.

The Hum of Stress and Anxiety

Understanding the body’s stress response is vital in managing the hum of stress by tuning in to our stress reactions and reflecting on our responses. Anxiety and stress often go hand in hand, and the combination can wear us out. Learn the basics about our nervous system and Polyvagal Theory, as well as the thought patterns that perpetuate stress and anxiety. Participants will examine a variety of evidence based principles and techniques to discharge stress, manage anxious thoughts, and maintain calm and connection.

Trauma Informed Self Care

Pedicures are a good start, but trauma informed self care often requires specific strategies. Learning and practicing simple breathing, stretching, and mindfulness exercises can have a significant impact on the physical response to stress. Caregivers may also forget to be as supportive to themselves as they are to those they serve, so this training also focuses on the vital practice of self compassion. Participants will leave this training with a basic self care plan that they can implement every day.

Psychological Safety

To be our most productive selves, we need an environment where we can share ideas, wonder, and make mistakes without fear of embarrassment or shame. A culture of psychological safety can be built and fostered through leadership strategies and team agreements. Participants will consider their workplace environments and learn how to cultivate psychological safety within their teams.

Leadership Development

Who are you as a leader? Building leadership capacity begins with reflection on our own strengths and areas for growth. Participants will build awareness of how they show up in relationships, practice listening for understanding, and consider ways to foster strengths and confidence in the people they supervise.

Emotional Intelligence

Self awareness, empathy, motivation, emotional regulation…these skills are vital to meeting the challenges of the workplace and beyond. This training provides an overview of emotion—what it is, why it exists, and what it can do for us. Participants will reflect on their own emotional experiences, learn to identify various emotions, and recognize how they can respond to others with empathy and understanding.
